Description
Cir. 1915-1920. Antique wooden carved carousel horse from the Allan Herschell carousel factory in North Tonawanda NY. Measures 51" long, by 31" high with a chest to rump measurement of 34". Jumping pose with all 4 legs off the ground . Head is tucked with wooden eyes and laid back ears. Arched neck with carved mane. Saddle with flap is girthed over a double blanket. It has a many layered paint history. Pale green body with trappings in red, brown, tan, green, blue, black and yellow. Metal shoes on all 4 hooves. Metal stirrups with leathers. Carved wooden tail. Original finish and condition. Untouched since acquired in early 1970's from dismantled carousel ride in Birmingham Alabama. Formally a partner in the Armitage-Herschell and Herschell-Spillman Engineering Companies. Scottish immigrant Allan Herschell founded his own factory in 1915. He specializing in carousels of high quality and durable construction. A rare wooden jumper in original condition for you collectors. Mounted on a brass pole with a Coca Cola base.
